To what extent does all this wireless technology affect our wellbeing? The mobile phone is here to stay. A wireless network is already available in most households and a cordless phone is somewhat easier than with a wired one. And then all these communication masts in the neighborhood? All these wireless devices make use of radiation and that raises questions. To what extent does all this wireless technology affect our wellbeing? Radiation is a controversial topic. It is also called the modern asbestos. Time to take a good look about it. During this evening we will discuss radiation from different perspectives. Raymond Lescrauwaet (De Woonbioloog, Group4Wellness) is the specialist in the field of healthy living and working environments. He will tell us what radiation is and how it affects us. He will show us how to measure radiation in our environment ourselves. Imar de Vries of Utrecht University will explain to us why we communicate wirelessly with each other and why we take the possible risks for granted. The artists Ursula Lavrenčič and Auke Touwslagers speak about their artwork "Cellphone Disco". ====== Urban Screen @SETUP ====== Z25 builds a massive vertical videowall on the Neude at SETUP! The videowall is created in the building of the [[http://www.dutchgamegarden.nl|Dutch Game Garden]]. Max Italiaander of Studio Zesbaans organised the After Effects Kitchen event in which animators could create animations specifically for this video wall. during the weekend. This joint effort resulted in a giant vertical videowall with custom animations. The videowall will be on display until the end of June at the Neude, Utrecht centre. [Z25RULER] {{:projects:DM22.jpg?250 }} ====== Digital Marbles on Tweetakt 2010 ====== For the theater festival [[http://www.tweetakt.net|Tweetakt]] the [[http://www.medialabutrecht.nl|medialab Utrecht]] initiative was asked to created a new interactive new media installation. For Tweetakt Jelle van der Ster ( [[http://www.z25.org|z25]] ), Levien Nordeman ( [[http://www.netniet.org|Netniet.org]] ) and [[http://www.vincentruijters.com|Vincent Ruijters]] build a digital and analog marble lane where children can create there own marbles. When a new marble is created it is measured, weighted and named during it's travel through the marble lane. If the marble passes all these test the visitors can take their marble home. This interactive installation will be on display from the 20th to the 28th of march 2010 on the Tweetakt festival area on the Neude. So come and create your own marble ! Kevin Warwick, a professor who presents himself as the world’s first cyborg, claims he had a direct brain connection with his wife. And Uri Geller is said to use brainpower to bend spoons. So, what can we control with our own brains and what is made possible with brain-computer interfaces? How do scientists and artists currently use sensors capable of capturing brain signals and how are computers able to interpret these signals? The iPhone, for instance, is already able to follow your sleeping patterns and wake you in time, but are there also other dreams that computers are capable of tapping? The third edition of the Utrecht New Media Evening (UNMA) will be held on 10 March. This edition will go into the present and future potential of brain-computer interfaces. Developers, researchers and artists will give away the latest developments of these interfaces. During the Game Jam we could work one weekend on a game based on the "As log as we have each other, we will never run out of problems". The ZX Spectrum team created the game "Troika" and is based on the dutch song "Doderit" by Drs. P. In the game you play along with the story Drs P. is singing. We tried to create a game using a different aproach. The music and lyrics define the gameplay and the player plays a videogameclip. The force of the explosion removed three additional wall in the building. Approximately 10.000 servers and about a million websites became unreachable. Peter Struycken (1939) became known in the 60s with his geometrical-abstract paintings where shape and form change systematically. In 1968 he became one of the first to use the computer in his work. De digital revolution that followed has been incorporated in his work the following decades. His artworks a praised for their great visual directness and lyrical power.
